Writing.

Here I plan to document writing and thoughts about books I'm reading.

I am not a project. But, I sure do love projects.

Quotes I hold dear:

"We must be alert to our inner signal, attentive to its spirit and to the information it carries. This space is where the treasure lies. It is the place from which our deepest desires, the ones that fuel our destiny anad feed our life force,a re born" (Unbound - Kasia Urbaniak)

-

"Something about it fizzes with energy. The word speaks of knowledge that lies close to the ground, a vital power, an accumulated force of experience that official sources disdain or repress. I also like the idea of an art that we can go on perfecting throughout our lives, to which we dedicate ourselves and which protects us against everything, or almost everything, if only due to the passion we invest in it. The witch embodies woman free of all domination, all limitation; she is an ideal to aim for; she shows us the way" (In Defense of Witches - Mona Chollet)

-

"A culture of narcissism is not a place where love can flourish. The emergence of the "me" culture is a direct response to our nation's failure to truly actualize the vision of democrazy articulated in our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Left alone in the "me" culture, we consume and consume with no thought of others. Greed and exploitation become the norm when an ethic of domination prevails. They bring in their wake alientation and lovelessness. Intense spiritual and emotional lack in our lives is the perfect breeding ground for material greed and overconsumption" (All About Love - bell hooks)

-

"In his insightful book Love and Awakening: Discovering the Sacred Path of Intimate Relationship, John Welwood makes a useful distinction between this type of attraction, familiar to us all, which he calls a 'heart connection', and another types he calls a 'soul connection'. Here is how he defines it. 'A soul connection is a resonance between two people who respond to the essential beauty of each other's individual natures, behind their facades, and who connect on a deeper level. This kind of mutual recognition provides the catalyst for a potent alchemy. It is a sacred alliance whose purpose is to help both partners discover and realize their deepest potentials. While a heart connection lets us appreciate those we love just as they are, a soul connection opens up a further dimension--seeing and loving them for who they could be, and for who we could become under their influence.' Making a heart connection with someone is usually not a difficult process" (All About Love - bell hooks)

How to pay attention again (the neuroscience of focus in the age of everything)

On the attention economy, and reclaiming your brain’s right to choose” by Yana Yuhai

As I read Yuhai’s piece, I began to feel emotional. A mix of anger and upset swept over me. How dare I let my life be decided by corporations and technology? What am I doing with my life? I do tend to lean all or nothing with things like this, but the sentiment still stands strong. Mid-reading the piece, I began to stare at my right palm. A distraction, yes, but a productive one. Almost immediately, I began to tear up. Tracing every nook and cranny, every spiral, every shade, I felt amazed by my own body. Slightly shimmery with sunscreen, my hand was an anomaly that incited curiosity in me. Just one I had grown used to. Then I looked up at the trees around me, continuing this perspective outside myself. In moments like this, my life feels suddenly in my control. I am fed up with the fatigue that Yuhai speaks of in her writing——the mind fog created by endless scrolling and a life fostered within a box of technology. My life is going to be outward. The path I chose is up to me. I’m not checking out and taking the easy route. That’s exactly what they want. Here’s to living an intentional, present life.
